How it works
- Start session — DashJam starts listening right away.
- Keep playing. The app holds the most recent 30 minutes in a rolling buffer — adjustable from 10 to 60 in Settings.
- When something good happens: Save Jam — drag the handles on the live waveform to keep exactly the stretch that mattered.
- Saved jams land in your Library and as
.m4afiles in the Files app.
What the app does
- Record continuously, decide later. You choose the moment after it happens, not before — up to an hour back.
- Automatic jam detection (Beta) finds the last jam for you, or pick the range yourself on the waveform.
- Trim saved jams from head and tail on the waveform — keeping the original or replacing it.
- Places. Save your rehearsal room or studio: DashJam reminds you to record when you arrive, and to save before you leave.
- Audio quality and mono controls for the recordings you keep.
- Save from the Lock Screen. A Live Activity and Dynamic Island show the recording state and put a save action a tap away.
- It survives a crash. If the app gets killed mid-session, your rolling buffer is still there when you reopen.
- A library you'll actually browse. Auto-generated names like “Crimson Spiral”, renameable, with in-app playback.
- Your files, your way. Export as
.m4avia AirDrop, Messages, or any share sheet. - English and German, with an in-app language override.
What does it cost?
Nothing. DashJam is free and every feature listed above is included — there is no Pro tier, no subscription, and no in-app purchase of any kind.
DashJam Pro used to be an optional upgrade. It isn't any more: everything it unlocked now ships to everyone. If you still have an active DashJam subscription, cancel it in Settings → your name → Subscriptions → DashJam — you keep every feature after cancelling. See Support for refunds.
Privacy-first
Audio never leaves your device — no servers, no accounts, no tracking. You decide whether and when to share a recording. The Places you save, and the coordinates behind them, stay on your device too and are never transmitted.
