How DashJam works
- Tap Start session — DashJam begins listening right away.
- Keep playing. The app holds the most recent 15 minutes of audio in a rolling buffer.
- When something good happens, tap Save Jam and drag the handles on the live waveform to pick exactly the stretch you want, then confirm.
- Saved jams land in your Library, where you can play them back, rename them, and export them. They also appear in the iOS Files app under DashJam.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account?
No. There's no sign-in. DashJam works entirely on your device.
Where do my recordings go?
Onto your iPhone, and nowhere else. Saved jams are .m4a files in DashJam's folder in the Files app. Nothing is uploaded.
Why does DashJam need the microphone?
To record your session. Audio stays on your device.
Does it record in the background?
Yes — while a session is active, recording continues when the app is in the background, so you don't have to keep it on screen. It stops when you end the session.
How far back can I save?
Up to the last 15 minutes of the current session.
My session was recording but I closed the app — did I lose it?
The rolling buffer is crash-safe and is restored when you reopen the app, as long as iOS hasn't evicted the cache to reclaim storage.
How do I get my recording off the phone?
Open the jam in your Library (or find it in the Files app under DashJam) and use the share sheet — AirDrop, Messages, email, or any destination you like.
Which languages are supported?
English and German. You can override the language in Settings → Language.
